Baya Baya Cafe · Bar in Playa Cocles offers more than just a typical coffee stop—it’s a relaxed beachfront spot blending the feel of a neighborhood café with the freshness of a bakery and the comfort of a casual breakfast and brunch restaurant. If your day starts with the beach breeze and a good cup of coffee, this place fits right in.

Locals and visitors alike head here for mornings where flaky, buttery croissants practically rival those you'd find in Paris, setting a high bar for pastries in Puerto Viejo. The bakery’s fresh breads and brownies also come highly regarded, making it a convenient grab-and-go choice when you want something to take back to your room or the beach.

The menu covers all bases from breakfast through dinner, with dishes that emphasize fresh, wholesome ingredients—like avocado toast topped with salmon or spinach omelets, often served alongside fresh fruit bowls or light salads. Portions are generous, matching the laid-back vibe where you can linger over your meal without feeling rushed.

The atmosphere here suits a range of moods: a sunny table facing the beach for slow mornings, a cozy nook for getting some work done with decent Wi-Fi and attentive service, or a casual lunch spot after some time in the surf. It’s a spot where the staff’s genuine warmth shines through; they seem to remember regulars and offer friendly, attentive service without being intrusive.

Visitors who value a balance of quality food, good coffee, and a view will find this cafe especially welcoming. Early to mid-mornings are great for a peaceful start, while afternoons keep the vibe chill, with enough buzz to feel part of the local rhythm but never crowded or hectic. Whether you want a quiet place to read, catch up on work, or simply enjoy a beachside meal, Baya Baya’s blend of bakery freshness and approachable cafe fare fits neatly into Playa Cocles’ casual lifestyle.

BEST CROISSANTS in PV... They are almost as good as Paris ! Flakey, buttery and floofy. Ive also gotten their bread loafs & brownies to go, super yummy. Coffees & espresso drinks are very good. Ive gotten the bacon, egg & cheese croissant sandwich & avocado toast l. Both were very good. Staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. Atmosphere is totally chill with beautiful beach views. Definitely loved this spot...

Every time I visit this beachfront café, I’m reminded why it has become one of my favorite places. Whether I stop by for a quick breakfast, a relaxed lunch, or just a coffee while enjoying the view, I’m always welcomed with the same warmth. The staff here are genuinely kind — they greet you by name, ask how you’re doing, and truly care about making every visit perfect. The food is on another level. You can tell there are people in the kitchen who understand the importance of detail and put real heart into what they do. The milanesas, for example, are outstanding: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with that homemade flavor you only get when something is cooked with passion. Every dish comes out consistently well-prepared, as if nothing is left to chance. The pastries and baked goods deserve a special mention. Everything is fresh, delicate, and well-balanced — from the flaky croissants that practically melt on the first bite to the freshly baked sourdough bread that has become my everyday companion at every meal. Each item feels like something you want to savor slowly, eyes closed. And if you’re a coffee lover, this place is a little paradise. The specialty coffee they serve is exceptional: rich aromas, clean flavors, and tasting notes that change depending on the origin of the beans. It’s clear there is skill, knowledge, and dedication behind every cup. It’s the kind of coffee that makes you want to linger a little longer. The atmosphere is another highlight. The café sits right in front of the beach and has a natural charm that makes everything feel lighter. The sea breeze, the soft light, the warm décor… it’s a space where you instantly feel at ease. Comfortable. At peace. The kind of place where, the moment you sit down, you know you’re going to stay longer than you planned. In short: kindness, quality, and a beautiful setting. Every visit is a complete experience. And that’s why I keep coming back, again and again

Yummy! This place has fresh meal options, great presentation, and great service. I've gone twice in 2 days it was so good. The spinach omelette had the perfect ingredients. The salmon on the avocado toast was fresh and tasty. The smoothies don't skimp on flavor either. Breakfasts are served with fruit bowls and most everything else comes with a side salad . I highly recommend it.

I had the Baya Bowl and it was fantastic. So much fresh fruit…. Strawberries, bananas, papaya, pineapple and watermelon. Coffee isn’t bad either

Lovely place! Right by the beach. We are sitting here 2 days in a row, people are sweet, the kitchen is great! Great coffee! I am a big latte oatmilk drinker and picky about my coffee, can definitely recommend this one. When you’re here order the fried plantain platter pfff delicious! So fresh!

Went here post beach workout and swim - smoothies were very good and reasonably priced. We also shared a burger and was very good - seemed to be a home made bun and real bacon. (Burger not pictured) Fries were good but not the best we’ve had in Puerto Viejo, but they were hot. Was about $28 USD for the two smoothies and one burger. We are more excited to come here for breakfast tomorrow because you could smell the home made croissants and cinnamon rolls. Will definitely be coming back tomorrow. Good place to work on your laptop. UPDATE: Went back for breakfast and the croissants did not disappoint. Smoothies again were amazing and the bacon and egg sandwich was a 10/10!! Must stop for Breakfast/Snack
